The President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Zambia (PSZ), Mr. Emmanuel Katai Mulenga, commemorated World Pharmacists Day at Levy Mwanawasa Medical University (LMMU) where he served as Guest of Honour at the Pharmaceutical Mentorship Summit.
The Summit was convened to empower attendees in leadership, advocacy and innovation. It featured an interactive and engaging panel discussion with pharmaceutical leaders drawn from academia, regulatory, community and hospital practice.
The Resident Doctors Association of Zambia (RDAZ) Executive Member, Dr. Charles Bwale, was invited as a panelist for the advocacy session. During his contribution, Dr. Bwale emphasized the need for a proactive approach in engaging policymakers to find sustainable solutions to challenges in the health sector, as well as the importance of collaboration among professional associations.
As Guest of Honour, the PSZ President encouraged members of the profession to uphold ethical principles in the delivery of pharmaceutical services. In line with this year's World Pharmacists Day theme, “Empowering Pharmacists for Healthier Futures,” the President highlighted key interventions the PSZ Executive Committee (EXCOM) is undertaking to create employment opportunities for both interns and professionals, through Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the private sector.
